Bishop McNamara High School is a private, Catholic coeducational high school offering its students a challenging college preparatory curriculum and a complete range of athletics and activities. Founded in 1964 as an all male high school, Bishop McNamara accepted females for the first time in 1992.  Sponsored by the Congregation of Holy Cross this Catholic school seeks the development of the whole person. Thus, the academically rigorous program is combined with athletic, artistic, religious and social activities to offer young men and women a well-rounded pathway to success.

Frank Desiderio, C.S.P. '71 Publishes New Book

Fr. Frank Desiderio '71, a Paulist priest,  has just published a new book by Paulist Press entitled Can You Let Go of a Grudge. Fr. Frank's ministry since 2008 has included leading retreats and parish missions on the spirituality of forgiveness. Currently, he is Director of the Paulist Center in Boston.

David Harmon '84 named President of Maryland State Society of Orthodontists

Dr. David Harmon '84 has recently been named the President of the Maryland State Society of Orthodontists. Besides owning his own private orthodontics practice, Dr. Harmon is a part time Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Orthodontics, at the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore. Well done, David!

Talib Zanna '09 Breaking Records in ACC Tournament

Talib Zanna '09 scores 19 points and grabs career high 21 rebounds, which is the 3rd all time in the 61 years of the ACC Tournament. He set a 61 year old ACC Tournament Record for offensive rebounds in a game with 10. Pitt faces Colorado at 1:40 pm on Thursday on TBS.

John Czajkowski '83 named Harvard Medical School Executive Dean for Administration

John Czajkowski '83 will be the new executive dean for administration at Harvard Medical School. "I have been greatly impressed by John's belief in our mission, and I am confident that he possesses the strategic and management skills necessary to help navigate the School through the opportunities and challenges ahead,"  remarked Jeffrey Flier, Dean of Faculty at Harvard Medical School.

Attending a School of a Different Faith

In the recent special publication, produced by Gazette Newspapers, Theology Department Chair Adam Greer as well as BMHS Parents, Rosie Allen-Herring and Allan Herring, were featured in an article entitled Attending a School of a Different Faith: Religious Schools Welcome Students of Different Faiths written by Karen Finucan Clarkson.  

Moreau Fellowship Program for Alumni

Bishop McNamara High School is pleased to announce the 2nd year of the Moreau Fellowship Program. This ten-month position is for a Bishop McNamara graduate upon completion of his/her college experience who is dedicated to service and community life. The Moreau Fellow works as a full-time employee. Possible responsibilities include serving as a substitute, coach, club moderator, chaperon, proctor, etc., and in some cases (depending on an individual's degree work and the school's needs), working with a Master teacher to assist with a specific class. 

Educating Students: Responsible & Ethical Digital Citizens

Mr. Marco Clark '85, President/CEO of Bishop McNamara, was recently interviewed for an article that appeared in Bethesda Now written by Joseph Hawkins, a 1967 graduate of BMHS. The article entitled, My Two Cents: Leave Cybercivility To School Administrators explores how high schools attempt to deal with the explosion in social media use of all types by teens. “… Our approach has been more to educate our students as responsible and ethical digital citizens," was Mr. Clark's response when questioned about how BMHS handles cyber-bullying and technology abuse.

BMHS African Music and Dance Program - A Step Above!

The Bishop McNamara High School African Music and Dance Program has dynamic and innovative classes designed to celebrate the rich and diverse culture of African music and dance in America. Led by Mr. Victor Bah, students learn the intricacies of the arts, live drumming, and African contemporary movement. This video showcases this one of a kind high school program.
