Washington Post Reporter Enjoys College Acceptance Letters on Senior Lockers

Washington Post reporter, Jenna Johnson, was visiting our campus last week to speak with journalism students and she was quite surprised to see college acceptance letters taped to the senior lockers.  When she returned to the Post, she wrote an article on her trip and the experience with the letters on the lockers. Ms. Johnson also reblogged a story written by Danielle Gibson '13.

Gallaudet University Visit for ASL Students

The Bishop McNamara High School American Sign Language (ASL) classes had the opportunity to tour Gallaudet University on May 3rd.  The students on the trip included a mixture of all grades, totaling 16 students, two parents, and BMHS ASL teacher, Ms. Danita Brooks. The group went on a basic campus tour, ate lunch in the campus cafeteria, and then students were able to interview deaf student for a class assignment.

BMHS Dancers Hit the Big Apple

Over the Easter Break, many of the students in the BMHS Dance Program, along with teachers and administrators, traveled to New York City for several days of fun filled events. The group attended the Broadway show Motown, a story of the one-of-a-kind sound that hit the airwaves in 1959 and changed our music culture forever, charting Motown founder Berry Gordy's incredible journey from featherweight boxer to the heavyweight music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and so many more.

Marcus Kyd '89 Visits BMHS April 22nd at 7:00 PM

Marcus Kyd, formerly Marc Anthony Nelson '89, will present and perform on Monday, April 22nd  at 7:00 pm in the BMHS Fine Arts Theater.

"It was McNamara's community that really helped me achieve my goals even at the earliest stages of my work," Marcus recalls of his years here at BMHS. Marcus will present as part of the Guest Artist Series & FADE Colloquium in the Fine Arts Theatre, which wasn't even built when he was here.

Pilot Justine Nogay Good LR '81 Presents to Aviation & ACE Students

Our community was so happy to welcome LaReine High School alumna, Justine Nogay Good LR '81, along with her husband, Don Good, who visited campus recently to discuss her 22 years of active and reserved military service in the United States Air Force and their subsequent careers with FedEx as pilots. Justine is the younger sister of Rich Nogay '74, Brian Nogay '76 and Elaine Nogay Walker LR '69. She first began as a ROTC member at LaReine and credits the discipline she learned there as a backbone for her success.

Religion Teacher Mr. Sanchez Wed Feb. 2nd

Bishop McNamara High School Religious Education teacher, Mr. Stephen Sanchez, was married Feb. 2, 2013, to Paige Smith at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Hyattsville, Maryland. The new Mrs. Sanchez is the 6th grade teacher at St. Jerome Academy, also in Hyattsville. They are planning a honeymoon during Spring Break. Congratulations and best wishes to you both.

BMHS Receives Grant from Catholic Business Network for Technology

Bishop McNamara High School was recently the proud recipient of a grant from the Catholic Business Network of PG for the purchase of Information Technology equipment - Thin Client computers. The grant of $1,500 was received by Kevin O'Neal, Director of IT, who made remarks about the impact of these computers on our students and faculty.

Solemnity of St. Joseph Mass with Fr. Matthew Carnes, S.J. March 19

March 19 is the Solemnity of St. Joseph, which marks a special day for the Congregation of Holy Cross. The Solemnities of the Sacred Heart and of Saint Joseph are the principal feasts of the priests and brothers, respectively.  St. André Bessette, who battled sickness for much of his own life, humbly devoted his life to prayer, serving the Lord and comforting the sick and afflicted through his intercession prayers to St. Joseph.  St. André always gave credit to God and St. Joseph for these miracles, and because of his strong devotion to St. Joseph, this eventually led to the building St.
