Special Service Opportunities
All Junior students are encouraged to sign up for a soup kitchen experience. A car, driven by a parent volunteer, leaves BMHS at 7:40am to assist at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Soup Kitchen, run by the Missionaries of Charity. Once there, they will help prepare, serve, and clean up after a meal for the homeless. Students will be back by 11:15am. Our students and parents earn 3 service hours towards their annual requirement (30 hrs for Juniors, 10 hrs for Parents). Students should visit the Campus Ministry Office for more information.
Merrick Center Tutoring
Freshmen students are encouraged to sign up for this tutoring experience held at the Merrick Center run by the Christ Child Society in Southeast DC. Students assist Merrick Center students aged 8-13 with their homework and reading, as well as joining in with other fun activities. The students are transported by the campus ministry bus driven by a chaperone. Students leave school at 3:30pm and return at 6pm. They earn 2.5 service hours each visit. Conact the campus ministry office to sign up.
Mt. Calvary Tutoring
Freshmen and senior students can sign up to tutor right next door at Mt. Calvary Elementary School. Tutoring is for children in grades 5-8 and will be held from 4-5pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. Contact the campus ministry office for more information or to sign up.
